To deploy additional resources to aid with suppression, the fire was upgraded from a two-alarm to a five-alarm situation. 42 resources in total were used by six more fire departments to battle the fire.

The multifamily building is currently empty of residents, and nobody was inside when the fire broke out. Firefighters used aerial ladders into the evening to knock out hot spots after the flames were extinguished.

On the Grubb Properties website, the complex was listed as Link Apartment Fitz and was intended to house "405 units of essential housing to Aurora to serve these workers, students, "and others who wish to settle in this expanding neighborhood."
